A memorable evening

I got to go to the Virginia Jefferson Jackson Dinner last night! I've always voted, but it was the first time I have ever participated in a party event. From the outside, I thought the support for both candidates was fairly even. Once I got inside, though, the buzz was in the air for Obama. Hillary spoke first. It was easy to applaud for Hillary. Her speech was full of good points. Then there were several other folks who spoke after Hillary and before Obama, and the people around me were starting to get antsy. I think some people wanted it to be an Obama rally! Mark Warner managed to speak well enough (and keep it short enough) to keep me interested. I think he will be a great Senator.

I used to show my history students clips of Martin Luther King, Jr. and John F. Kennedy speaking. Every time I'd show them I'd wonder if I'd ever be inspired by someone in present-day politics. Now I am! It was amazing to be in the audience and share the experience. I wish everyone could have been there to feel the energy.
