reading, reading, reading!

As I've probably said before, my favorite part of being with my kids full-time is being able to read to them every day and go to the library frequently. Some of the books out there are magnificent. I love being able to follow a theme when some event is approaching so that Zora will be prepared for that event. She's read lots of books about doctors, gardening, weddings, new babies, using the potty, going to school and learning to swim. Sometimes when Sam is taking his morning nap, Zora and I will sit on the couch and read for an hour. She often surprises me with her attention span and comprehension.

The high point of my week was while we were in the car on a short trip. I had put several books next to Zora, thinking that she could look at them and tell herself the sotries, since they were picture books she loved. She did look at them for a few minutes, and then she said, "I want to know how to read!" She really does love books.
But, wait, there's more! Just this week, we have been reading some lift-the-flap books that we got at McKay's Used Books in Knoxville on our recent trip. These books have somehow triggered more enthusiasm than any other book for Samuel. He will actually crawl across the room if I hold it up!
I can't think of much that I am more thrilled with as a parent than the thought that my children will love to read like I do!

It is SO very rewarding when our kiddos want to read. Josh also really perks up when I open the books and begin to read. He will watch and listen for a minute or so and then he just wants to grab it away from me...LOL. It is a start though.
